Wader Scrape Hide, London WWT

Glossy Ibis

I arrived at opening time and went to the Peacock Hide where there was a helpful birder who let me know that there was an Ibis which had apparently been at the London WWT for the past ~6 weeks. It seems we were very fortunate as the Glossy Ibis was very close to the Peacock hide, approximately 25 metres away, which was much closer than it had been in previous weeks.

Bittern

Again I was lucky that when I walked into the Dulverton Hide there was another helpful birder who had spotted a Bittern. It was great to see it, but it was right across on the other side of the lake, approx 180 metres away. There was a Cormorant that kept swimming back and forth in front of the Bittern which I assume was a form of territorial posturing.

Bittern at ~180 metres

Lapwings

It was great to see a flock of Lapwings as it was my first time seeing them. They were also at quite a distance and seemed to be all snoozing and were not very active except when spooked along with the rest of the birds.
